A look at Guidance 1.1

Work is steadily being made on Guidance 1.1. As you can see from the screen shots below, one of the features in Guidance 1.1 is a unified location field. This will help alleviate a lot of the problems I think international users are having and becoming confused what to enter for state and so forth. You will also be able to see the new feature of being able to select your own adhan file.

So far all the features I mentioned in my earlier post (see “The Status of Guidance“)are slated for this release except for an Arabic version. My Arabic, while fluent, is not good enough for translation. If anyone would like to volunteer to translate Guidance into Arabic please contact me. Also, automatic update installation (using Sparkle) is on the fence as to whether or not it will make it into this release or the next one.

    Assalamou aleikom,

thank you very much for this application I recently discovered. May I ask you if you plan to keep the existing method of calculation of the pray time? In France, we are used to use a 12° Sunrise angle for the Fajr and Isha method.

    Regards and Jazakum Allahu khair.

I didn’t realize there was a 12° angle used for prayer time calculations. If its not widely used I may just make an option for “Other” and then you can specify any angle you want.

    Salam Alaikum,

I’m having issues with the old version of Guidance (creating date is Nov, 2007). When it starts up it consumes ~100% of CPU and then the Activity Monitor shows that it’s not responding. I’ve got the same issue on a MacBook and and iMac.

Not sure how I can find more info on what’s causing the issue but I’m willing to help.

    Jazak Allahu Khair.

P.S.: Is Guidance open source, and if so where do I get the source?

You’re not the first person in the last two weeks to report this issue, but I have yet to be able to recreate the problem on my computer. Can you tell me what your settings for Guidance are, what time zone your computer is set to and what exactly the Activity Monitor shows for Guidance. InshAllah we will be able to figure out why this is happening.

Also, yes, Guidance is open source. You can get the source code from http://code.google.com/p/guidanceapp

    SA,

I really love the app. Thank you so much. It would be great if we could set a separate recording for each prayer time.

thanks for your comment hikmet, i was wondering if there was a particular reason you wanted to be able to set a different adhan for each prayer time other than having that extra choice? when i was considering to add that feature i thought it might be too annoying to change the five different prayers and possibly the two reminders every time you wanted to change the adhan. what do you think?
